Transportation

The Westside Union School District is a member of the Antelope Valley Schools Transportation Agency (AVSTA). All student busing is provided through that agency, which is governed by a board of directors. Each of the four member districts in this agency provides one board member, and a Chief Executive Officer appointed by the governing board directs the day-to-day operations of the agency.

The agency has adopted its own set of policies and procedures regarding student safety, walking distances, the placement of bus stops and routing of busses, and student discipline. With the exception of special education busing, student transportation is an elective program for public schools.

The State of California does not provide adequate financial support for our busing program, thus making it necessary for the District to supplement approximately one half million dollars annually in order to provide the busing now in place.
