2004 Reflections Program

"I'm really happy when.."

That is the theme for this year's PTA Reflections Program.

General Mills Box Tops

Rancho Vista PTA collects box tops from each classroom and turns them into money for our school. You can help. You probably have a few in your cupboards right now! Clip and send them in to your child's teacher! The students of Rancho Vista thank you!

Donating made easy!

You can donate portions of your purchases to Rancho Vista PTA at the time of your purchases! Many popular vendors including Vons and Payless Shoes are part of the program. There is no money out of your pocket. Just go to www.escrip.com. Click "Sign Up", type in "Rancho Vista" and you're on your way. The students of Rancho Vista thank you!

The PTA (Parent Teacher Association) is the oldest and largest volunteer association working on children and youth issues. I urge you to become involved in the Rancho Vista PTA. Attend Association meetings and volunteer to be a part of the events and activities at school this year. We are excited about the many upcoming activities that will become cherished memories in you and your children's lives. I look forward to working with you in 2004-2005.

According to the
National PTA, study after study shows that children whose parents are involved in education are more motivated in school. Since their desire to learn is supported by their family, they are more likely to have good study habits, do their homework and strive academically. They are also more likely to succeed in life: Achieving in school often correlates to personal and professional achievements.

1. Be involved. Your involvement will encourage students to learn.
2. Provide resources at home for learning. Utilize your local library and have books and magazines available. Read with your children each day.
3. Set a good example. Show your children by your own actions that reading is enjoyable and useful. Monitor TV viewing.
4. Encourage students to do their best in school. Show them you believe education is important and that you want them to do their best.
5. Value education and seek a balance between schoolwork and outside activities.
6. Recognize factors that take a toll on classroom performance, such as long hours at after-school jobs or in extracurricular activities.
7. Support school rules and goals.
8. Use pressure positively. Encourage children to do their best but don't pressure them by setting goals too high or scheduling too many activities.
9. Call teachers early if there is a problem. Don't wait for teachers to call you.
10. Accept your responsibilities as parents. Don't expect the school and teachers to take over your parental obligations.
