Meet the Counselor

Hello! My name is Korina Barefield. I am the school counselor at Anaverde Hills School! I am excited to be a part of this wonderful school in educating and preparing the next generation of 21st century students.

A little background information on me. I graduated from Cal State Bakersfield with a Bachelor’s of Arts in Psychology, a minor in Sociology. Moving forward,  I graduated from Cal State Long Beach with a Master’s of Science in Counseling where I earned my K-12 Pupil Personnel Services Credential. Go Beach!! I also played NCAA Women’s Tennis during my undergraduate career. Tennis anyone??

I offer individual and small group counseling services to all students, as well as classroom guidance. These services promote personal and social growth, which will positively impact student’s academic achievement. Following the direction from our awesome Principals Dr. Rossall-Bennett and Mr. Weber, I will be hugely focusing on building resiliency with our students. My goal is to emphasize the strengths, skills, and mindsets each child has and the ongoing theme of everything I do will be to remind students to NEVER, EVER GIVE UP!! Go Vipers!

Counseling is an opportunity for students to learn and practice making good choices. Good choices may include study habits, effective communication, positive behaviors, and promoting social skills development and coping skills. The school counseling services are based on the idea that future problems can be avoided by developing a student’s feeling of success and competence.
The intent of school counseling is to support student academic success by aiding personal growth and school adjustment. The counseling process may include preliminary teacher consultation and a summary parent contact.
