Happy Summer Community Letter

  • Community and Parents

Dear Westside Parents and Community Members,

Wow! We have actually completed the 2020-21 school year amongst unimaginable changes to how schools operate during the pandemic. We are looking forward to seeing what adjustments will be made on June 15th when California reopens. The patience and cooperation of you and your students have made the necessary changes possible, but we are sure looking toward a return to school as it was pre-COVID when summer break ends on August 4, 2021!

We are pleased to celebrate the promotion of our 8th grade students in person. Thanks to the Antelope Valley Union High School District for allowing our students to have their ceremonies for 20-21 in the high school stadiums. Anaverde Hills and Del Sur Schools were able to hold their ceremonies on their own sites, and in all instances, we were proud to honor our students as they complete their elementary education and move into high school. Thanks to our staff members for putting together unique programs for each group of students.

Please remember that all materials checked out to your children to do their school work this year, must be returned to the school. This might include library books, Chromebooks, adapters, hot spots, text materials or general supplies. Each school has arranged a return process, so if you are not aware of the process, please contact the school office staff.

Summer School will be held at many of the schools in the District. Classes will be held at various dates and times, so if you have registered for a course, please check the information at your local school for time and dates of the course, so that your child can fully participate in the program. Thanks for participating in the additional learning opportunity this summer, and thanks to our staff for providing the classes.

Registration is currently underway for our students. The process can be completed online and you can find the needed information on the District’s website located at www.westside.k12.ca.us. If you have any questions, please feel free to call the number on that website. If you have new neighbors or friends who’ve moved into the District and they have elementary aged children, please let them know that registration is open and available.

For those who’ve been attending meetings of the Board of Trustees, please note that we have three regular meetings in June. The dates are June 8, 26, and 29. Public sessions on the 8th and 29th will begin at 6 p.m. The meeting on the 26th will begin at 8 a.m. Agendas for all meetings can be found on the website.

Again, I thank you for all of your support, cooperation, patience, and understanding during this unprecedented school year. You and your children have made an unusual situation more manageable with your positive support. I also am thankful for the determined work of our staff in ensuring that your children received the best possible instruction and support in spite of the pandemic. As we enter summer, we hope that your family gets some time to enjoy the summer, rest, relax, and be ready for school to reopen on August 4th.

Congratulations to our 8th grade students who are being promoted to high school. We have appreciated being part of your elementary school journey! Best of luck in high school.

Happy Summer,

Regina L. Rossall
