Superintendent’s Summary

  • Community and Parents

Good Morning, Westside Parents and Community Members,

I hope that you and your family enjoyed the holiday season and the break from the 1st semester of school.  You should have received both the 1st semester progress report and a copy of your child’s NWEA scores for the semester.  If you have questions about either of these documents, please contact your child’s teacher(s) and/or counselor.

We have been planning for some of our students to return to face-to-face instruction beginning today, but due to the continual increase in COVID-19 cases, directions from Los Angeles County Department of Public Health advised that students remain on distance learning.
Parents of students who were to return to in-person instruction received notice of this change last week.  Our current return date for those students is January 25th, but the Board will consider this again at its next meeting, January 19th.  Attached you will find the advice letter from LACDPH for your information.

Our Child Nutrition Department has resumed meal service for our students.  Please check the website for service at your child’s school.

With the beginning of the new semester, it is helpful for all students to be engaged with their classroom instruction.  Students need to attend their online sessions every day and be active in their learning.  Attendance is a critical element in successfully completing their current grade, so please support your children to be active in attending and participating in their class instruction.

Again, thank you for your continued involvement, support and cooperation during this school year. Like many of you, I too am disappointed that we were unable to have students back on campus right now, but we are planning for their return as soon as it is considered safe to do so.  Please remember that there is a new travel requirement in relation to returning to work or school.  If your child has travelled more than 120 miles from home, he/she will be required to self quarantine for 10 days from the date of return home from that trip.  All of these requirements are being implemented by LACDPH and CDPH to keep us all safe from the COVID-19 virus.  Your compliance with those requirements will help get control of the virus.

Thanks again, and best wishes for 2021.
