Thanksgiving Week

  • Community and Parents

Dear Westside Parents and Community Members,

With the warm weather we’ve experienced of late, it is hard to believe we’ve arrived at Thanksgiving week, however, the crisp morning air, the return to Pacific Standard Time, and the falling leaves keep us aware we are in the middle of our fall season!  It is also a reminder for us to give thanks for the many blessings we have received.  The staff and I are very grateful for the support we’ve received from so many of you over these unique months.  Your patience and kindness have been so appreciated.

I am hopeful that you will enjoy the break next week, and take time to reconnect with family and friends.  This has been a busy first semester, so please take some time to relax.

Schools will close for the next week at the end of today, and District Offices will be open on Monday and Tuesday of next week only.  Students will return to school on Monday, November 29th, and will complete the semester on December 17th.  During December, students will also complete the mid-year NWEA assessment so they and you will be able to see the growth they have achieved since their original assessment in August.  Semester progress reports will also be available in late December.

As we continue to address the Board’s goal to improve the reading level of our students districtwide, our elementary schools are implementing more focused interventions.  One of those interventions has been the 4 day per week after school reading program.  Students will complete the first session of the program in December, but we are pleased with the progress students are making.

If you are wanting to volunteer at your children’s school, have completed your fingerprint check and received your badge from the District, you can sign up at the school.  For now, the staff at the school will review your vaccine card or cleared Covid-19 test to determine eligibility to volunteer on campus.  As always, classroom volunteers will be requested as needed by the classroom teacher and we are pleased to be able to welcome you back on campus.

Again, thanks for your support, and I hope you enjoy the upcoming vacation from school.  I am grateful for our students and the staff that supports them daily, and look forward to everyone’s safe return to school on Monday, November 29th.

Sincerely,

Regina Rossall
Superintendent
