Use of Facilities

The use of school facilities is governed by the Civic Center Act (Education Code 38130-38138) and a 1993 U.S. Supreme Court decision. The Board of Trustees recognizes that district facilities are a community resource whose primary purpose is to be used for school programs and activities. The board authorizes the short-term use of school facilities on a first-come, first-served basis by community groups for purposes provided in the Civic Center Act when such use does not interfere with school activities.

The Board believes that the use of school facilities should not result in costs to the District. The Board shall grant the use of school facilities without charge to school-related organizations whose activities are directly related to or for the benefit of district schools.

Other groups requesting the use of school facilities under the Civic Center Act shall be charged at least direct costs in accordance with established fee schedules.
