Title I Updates

Mr. Weber shared about the money had been reallocated and Hillview had received an additional allocation of $3,189 bringing the total Title I funding to $76,236. This also brings the amount allocated for parental involvement to $762 as it needs to be 10% of the funds allocated. Mr. Weber suggested adding the funds to Goal 2 Strategy 2. Mr. Richard Cohn motioned, seconded by Mr. Gary Graves. Motion carried 10-0-0.

Mr. Weber shared the current spending to date of Title I funds. At the time of this meeting, $2805 was spent on the renewal of the PearDeck contract, $1080 was spent on after-school tutoring, $5503 was spent on the planners for the 2022-2023 school year, as well as $1400 for sending teachers to conferences, bringing the total to date spent to $10,788.

Mr. Weber asked for input on how to best utilize the parental involvement funds. Ideas included high school presentations and academic (Mr. Richard Cohn), field trips to the high schools (Mrs. Sofia Muzaffar), Career Day activities (Mrs. Sofia Muzaffar), parent support groups/academies (Ms. Donnelle McMillan) and Vaping/Drug Awareness presentations (Mr. Jonathan Weber)

Ms. Donnelle McMillan shared about the school’s SPARC and said that she will send out last year’s SPARC so that when we discuss the current year’s SPARC in January the council has an idea of what was done previously.

Review of current site plan and baseline MAP NWEA data - Mr. Weber shared the current site plan as well as the fall grade level reports for MAP NWEA.

Discussion on COVID Protocols - Mr. Weber shared the K-12 Plan for Safe Reopening with the council and asked if there were any questions. Mr. Graves asked if volunteers would be allowed back on campus. Mr. Weber shared that as soon as the district system for collecting vaccination records or negative tests was up and running that volunteers would be allowed back on campus.

Discussion of meeting dates and times - A discussion was held about the best dates and times for future meetings. The council agreed to meet the 2nd to last Thursday of each month at 2:15pm.

Mr. Weber shared the proposed expenditures for the 21-22 Title I budget and the corresponding goals. These included the conversion of room 107 into a flexible learning space, sending 8 people to AVID summer institute, the planners for 22-23, Physical Education support, Parental engagement support (i.e. projector and screen for the gymnasium), school climate support with the purchase of iPads, Award support for buying the Honor Roll and Principal’s List pins, and the on-going expenditure of tutoring.

Open House will be held on March 16th. Mr. Weber shared the idea of hosting small breakout sessions on PowerSchool or Google Classroom to help the community. Winter MAP NWEA Data Review - Data was shared with the council as to the Winter performance on MAP NWEA

WASC Accreditation - Hillview’s Midcycle review for WASC will take place on March 1st. The document as well as the action plan was shared with the council. Both Ms. Martin and Ms. Booker volunteered to be a part of focus groups during the visit. Mrs. Jessica Sherlock volunteered to be a part of the parent focus group. The mid-cycle review document was shared with the council.

Update on current spending: Mr. Weber shared that all of the TItle I budget for the year is accounted for. A bulk of the money was spent on conferences, with seven teachers being sent to AVID Summer Institute as well as two separate Solution Tree Trainings being brought to the district to help improve the interventions and responses on campus. Another portion of the budget was spent to help increase parent engagement through the purchase of a ViewSonic portable stand and board. This board will help increase the capabilities of parent trainings, ELAC meetings, and other parent events. To help address the science scores of the school, CAST Training materials were purchased to better prepare students for the upcoming CAST administration.

End-of-Year Activities: With the increasing prices of Magic Mountain and limited transportation, a brainstorming session was held on alternate ideas for 8th-grade promotion. Some ideas included Dry Town and Jonathan’s Incredible Pizza.

Safety Plan Presentation: Mrs. Jill Stanford presented key highlights and data from HV’s safety plan. These included areas of focus of Bathroom supervision, dismissal safety, and feelings of safety on campus. The presentations along with a brief survey are posted on the school website for review and input.

Announcements:

Parent University Night is being held tonight at 5pm with the topic of testing anxiety and test-taking tips.
-
The California Healthy Kids Survey has been sent out to all community members and all are encouraged to answer and help improve our school.
-
Our Mid-cycle WASC visit is scheduled for March 1st and it will be a virtual visit.
-
6th Grade Informational Meeting and Open House will be held on March 8th. The 6th-grade informational meeting will be from 5:00-5:30 pm in the cafeteria with the Open House being held from 5:15-7:00pm in the gymnasium. All are welcome to attend.
-
Soccer season has started with games on Wednesdays and Thursdays starting at 3 pm at the Lancaster Soccer Complex.
