Volunteers

Are you planning to volunteer this year?

Thank you for your interest in volunteering for the Westside Union School District. All volunteers must sign-in and sign-out in the volunteer register located at the front desk and must wear a volunteer identification badge provided at all times so that the staff and students can identify you as a volunteer.

Please be advised that you can attend any of the upcoming volunteer orientation dates below. Due to recent changes in state laws, there are updated requirements for all individuals volunteering within Westside Union School District schools. Please review our new mandatory clearance items and the available orientation dates below:

Mandatory Steps:

  • Fingerprinting and TB self-assessment questionnaire at the District Office 
  • (If you have already fingerprinted in the past with Westside, you do not need to fingerprint again)
  • Complete mandatory SB848 Mandated Reporter Training Course https://www.publicschoolworks.com/Portal/Portal.php?di=10818&dia=kir9l
  • Attend required in-person Volunteer Orientation/District Volunteer Handbook review at a school site of your choice (see dates below)

TB Risk Assessment Questionnaire

A TB Risk Assessment Questionnaire (RAQ) will be completed at the time of fingerprinting.

Fingerprinting

Any volunteer that will be with students unsupervised by a district employee or chaperoning a field trip must be fingerprinted.Volunteers can call the District at 661-722-0716 ext 77526 to schedule an appointment for fingerprinting. The fee charged by the Department of Justice for fingerprinting is $32.00, which must be paid at the time of fingerprinting. Volunteering carries with it the responsibility of being loyal to the school site. Confidentiality is a must. All information you hear or read is confidential. Do not share this information with others.

An injury or accident that occurs while on campus must be promptly reported to the Administrative office. Volunteers assisting in a classroom, please allow teachers to instruct you in what needs to be done. Discipline is solely the responsibility of the Site staff. If you encounter a problem with a student or see a conflict, contact a staff member to deal with the situation.
